Join us at PACT

PACT is seeking a male Community Youth Worker for a casual role supporting tamariki and rangatahi aged 7–18 across South Auckland.

This role responds to changing school and community needs, with hours varying week to week. The focus is on school-based mentoring, after-school support, and involvement in selected PACT programmes,

About the Role

You’ll work alongside tamariki and rangatahi in school and community settings, building trusted relationships and supporting positive engagement, wellbeing, and development.

The role includes mentoring individuals and small groups, supporting young people within PACT programmes, and at times delivering one of PACT’s classroom-based programmes in a secondary school setting. This means being able to hold the attention of a full classroom, communicate with confidence, and engage students in a way that is natural, interactive, and credible.

You’ll play an important role in helping young people grow in confidence, strengthen relationships, and navigate challenges in healthy ways, while contributing to safe and positive spaces where they can thrive.

Faith and Values

PACT is a Christian organisation, and this role includes supporting the spiritual development of rangatahi where appropriate. You’ll be expected to uphold and model Christian values, contribute to a positive faith-informed team culture, and help connect rangatahi with opportunities for spiritual growth — such as youth groups,  small groups, or church programmes — in ways that align with their journey and whānau context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide school-based and after-school mentoring support

  • Support tamariki (7–13) and rangatahi (14–18) within PACT programmes

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with young people, whānau, schools, and community partners

  • Support emotional regulation, confidence, and positive behaviour

  • Be a consistent, positive male role model

  • Deliver or support classroom-based sessions in schools, engaging larger groups of students confidently

  • Present content in a way that is engaging, relational, and responsive to the group

  • Contribute to safe group environments that encourage participation, respect, and belonging

  • Work collaboratively with PACT staff to support coordinated follow-up

  • Maintain appropriate case notes and communication within the team

  • Assist with transport where needed for programme participation or mentoring support

We’re looking for someone who

  • Has a track record of working with young people in a paid or volunteer role

  • Relates naturally to tamariki and rangatahi and builds trust easily

  • Has the confidence and presence to engage a full classroom well

  • Can communicate clearly and hold attention in group settings

  • Is flexible and responsive to changing needs

  • Holds a full driver’s licence

  • Is available for at least two days per week during school hours, with some after-school availability

  • Has strong connections to, or understanding of, South Auckland communities

  • Is values-aligned and comfortable working within a Christian organisation

A qualification in youth work, social services, education, or a related field is highly desirable, but relevant experience and the right fit are equally important.

This role includes

  • Regular supervision and professional development.

  • 6 weeks of annual leave.

  • Phone allowance.

  • Working as part of a close-knit, passionate team that cares deeply about rangatahi and their whānau.
