Location: Papatoetoe, South Auckland
Hours:  30-40 hours per week

Start date:  Mid January 2026

Join the Team at PACT!

We’re excited to offer a unique and meaningful opportunity for a Tutor to join our Te Kupenga Alternative Education programme — helping support some of South Auckland’s most at-risk rangatahi to re-engage with learning, build confidence, and find their place of belonging.

About the Role

Te Kupenga (“the net”) provides a wrap-around learning environment for students who have been excluded or disengaged from mainstream education. Our goal is to help each ākonga rediscover their sense of value, purpose, and potential.

As a Tutor, you’ll work alongside a small team to support academic learning (through Te Kura correspondence work), social and emotional development, and practical life skills.

You’ll play a key role in building relationships, mentoring students, and helping create a safe, structured, and hope-filled learning environment.

Faith and Values

PACT is a Christian organisation, and this role includes supporting the spiritual development of rangatahi where appropriate. You’ll be expected to uphold and model Christian values, contribute to a positive faith-informed team culture, and help connect rangatahi with opportunities for spiritual growth — such as youth groups,  small groups, or church programmes — in ways that align with their journey and whānau context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support ākonga with Te Kura course work and learning activities.

  • Lead small group sessions and 1:1 tutoring in core subjects.

  • Build trusting relationships with rangatahi that encourage engagement and growth.

  • Support rangatahi to set and review personal goals using tools such as Career and Achievement Plans (CAPs) and Lighthouse reflections.

  • Facilitate mentoring conversations that help students reflect on progress and build self-awareness.

  • Support and participate in restorative conversations when conflict arises, modelling calm, respectful communication and helping repair relationships.

  • Work collaboratively with the rest of the Te Kupenga team to ensure a coordinated approach to wellbeing and education.

  • Contribute to a positive classroom environment that encourages participation, respect, and belonging.

  • Support students to connect with after-school programmes and community activities that build confidence and skills.

  • Daily assistance with transporting students to and from PACT and to off-site activities.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Relates naturally to rangatahi and builds trust-based relationships.

  • Has experience in education, alternative education, or youth work.

  • Holds (or is working towards) a relevant qualification in teaching, youth work, social work, or a related field.

  • Can confidently lead small groups and support students with behavioural or emotional needs.

  • Demonstrates strong communication and organisation skills, including case note management and collaboration.

  • Works professionally in a Christian environment and embodies PACT’s values.

  • Holds a full driver’s license.

This role includes

  • Regular supervision and professional development.

  • 7 weeks of annual leave .

  • Phone allowance.

  • Working as part of a close-knit, passionate team that cares deeply about rangatahi and their whānau.
